LITIGATION LEGAL ASSISTANT – CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA (FULL-TIME)

Flora Pettit PC, an established central Virginia and Shenandoah Valley law firm that highly values its employees, seeks an extremely organized Litigation Legal Assistant / Paralegal for its Charlottesville, Virginia office. Successful candidates must understand and maintain client confidentiality and information safeguarding, as well as demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. Responsibilities include performing complex and detailed clerical, administrative, and secretarial duties to assist paralegals and attorneys in the representation of clients. Attention to detail, a high level of organization, and working efficiently within a team are essential to be successful in this position.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include keeping clients informed by maintaining contact, scheduling meetings, and communicating case progress; maintaining active file lists and calendaring filing deadlines; updating attorneys’ calendars; assisting with legal arguments, motions, and case filings; developing and maintaining case file indexing systems; using files and research resources to gather information for pending cases; drafting documents, letters, and correspondence to counsel, courts, and clients; meeting with attorneys, clients, and other professionals regarding assigned matters; preparing routine legal documents such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, and interrogatories in accordance with judicial procedures; researching and drafting deeds, transfer documents, foreclosure documents, and fiduciary reports; analyzing statutes, regulations, legal articles, and judicial decisions for attorneys; interviewing clients and witnesses and summarizing statements; organizing and retrieving case materials, including evidence, exhibits, depositions, and pleadings; assisting with trial preparation and hearings; supporting timely monthly billing; and tracking attorneys’ CLE hours.

 

Competencies

Qualified candidates should demonstrate proficiency with standard office software, including Adobe and Microsoft Office Suite; communicate effectively and professionally in writing and verbally; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain strong organizational skills for paper and electronic filing while managing multiple priorities; build effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and external agencies; work independently and apply sound logic to problem-solving; uphold professionalism and confidentiality; and proofread carefully for grammar, punctuation, and spelling accuracy.

Salary: $42,000–$55,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
