Cathy Welsh will present a discussion of Wage and Hour & Misclassification Legal Issues to the Virginia Skyline Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). IMA is the worldwide association of accountants and financial professionals working in business. The Skyline Chapter meets monthly and in June hosts a full day long CPE session for public and private accountants. How employees and contractors are paid is an area where law and accounting intersect. Accountants need to understand the Fair Labor Standards Act and recent developments in misclassification of independent contractor cases to help clients avoid overtime and state and federal tax liability.
