Seth Ragosta Elected to Board of Governors of the VSB Family Law Section

Seth J. Ragosta was recently elected as a Board of Governors Member of the Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar. The section provides information regarding family law to the public through its website and its publications (including Children and Divorce, Marriage in Virginia, Divorce in Virginia, Spare the Child, and Financial Issues in Divorce). The Virginia legislature periodically seeks and obtains information from the section, but because the Virginia State Bar is a state agency, the section does not engage in legislative advocacy.

Seth is particularly well-suited for this position as he focuses his practice on family law, litigation compliance and commercial litigation. His work in family law includes all issues related to separation or divorce matters including division of assets, custody and support. Seth uses his familiarity with litigation and personal privacy matters to counsel institutional clients regarding subpoena responses, privacy and privilege protection, government investigations and other corporate litigation-related needs. His commercial litigation experience includes contract disputes, property boundary issues and will contests. Seth has considerable trial experience before state and federal courts as well as all levels of appellate courts. Seth is admitted to practice before all federal and state trial courts in Virginia and Massachusetts as well as the Courts of Appeals for the First and Fourth Circuits.  Seth served the VSB on the 7th District Disciplinary Committee and has been active with the Virginia Bar Association, where he served on the Young Lawyers Division Executive Board and won the Emerson G. Spies Award for enthusiasm and dedication to VBA’s work.

Jennifer Shirkey, President of Flora Pettit, said, “We encourage our lawyers to become subject matter experts by participating in statewide Bar activities—learning and sharing knowledge with lawyers throughout the Commonwealth in such a collegial setting benefits all lawyers, clients, and communities. Seth has been in Bar leadership positions since the beginning of his career, and we value and support his continued contributions.”
