M. Hunter Rush

Overview

Hunter Rush has a diverse litigation practice, focusing on commercial litigation, employment, and real estate disputes.

Hunter has lived in the Shenandoah Valley since 2004. He received his undergraduate degree in Justice Studies and Spanish and a Master of Arts in Teaching from James Madison University. He also earned an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University.

Before attending Washington and Lee University School of Law, Hunter taught K–7 and undergraduate students for several years in Harrisonburg. He was especially involved in HCPS’s dual language program and, through his teaching, gained significant insight into the local community. Hunter uses the lessons and contacts he made as a teacher to provide thoughtful, holistic representation to his clients.

During his time at W&L, Hunter was the Production Editor of the Washington and Lee Journal of Civil Rights and Social Justice, a Legal Research Teaching Assistant, and a Student Attorney in the law school’s Black Lung Legal Clinic. He also volunteered at an immigration law firm and W&L’s Immigrant Rights Clinic. One of the highlights of Hunter’s time in law school was interning for Chief Judge Roger L. Gregory of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

When he is not in the office or with clients, Hunter can be found on adventures with his wife Melissa, also a JMU alum and former teacher, and their Miniature Bernedoodle Rey.
